Aesclepios – The Sculpture
2019 - 2021
Study for bronze, H211 cm (H83 inches)
“A sculpture freely inspired by Michelangelo's Moses sculpture in Rome.
Moses being a leading personification of hope in Jewish, Christian and
Islamic history. I added an elaborate Renaissance or Baroque kind of
column with a large snake coiling around it. As in the AESCLEPIOS paintings,
the snake is actually a friendly Asian dragon and as such no possible
threat but rather a metaphor for continuous change. Aesclepios is a
sculptural equivalent to the paintings and a metaphor for hope and
health across Eastern and Western cultures and religions.”
