“Concepts of communication between humans and the above, or beyond, have been explored since ancient time, as the smoke of sacrifices curling into the heavens, or winged messengers from God or the Gods. Winged phantasy animals or humans evolved in Persia, India, China, other Asian and American cultures, leading to the idea of benign angels (as well as devils) in various religions. Soaring Calm and Free offers an open-ended reference to this long tradition. Is this a messenger of God or the Gods, a falling angel, an Icarus whose unlimited ambition made him fly too high, or does this sculpture personalize a freewheeling on the winds of life?”
